Happiness is No Nap Required

Everyone’s happiness comes in a different shape. Today, mine is in the shape of not needing a nap. ๐Ÿ™‚

Tomorrow makes four weeks that I’ve been working on the farm. I’ve lost almost 15 pounds (that’s another whole kind of happiness), it’s great to be working outside again, and everyone has been cool about helping me get settled in. So I’m liking being here. But I have to admit it’s hard work. My body has been sore, and I’ve needed a nap every afternoon – for an hour to an hour and a half.

A funny side note – We had really bad storms last night. To the point of the tornado sirens going off. Well, I was so tired that I didn’t hear them. Tammy called just to check on me, and she was surprised I didn’t hear the sirens. After all, they’re only a quarter mile down the road! Now that’s TIRED! ๐Ÿ™‚

Okay. Back to the nap thing.

Yesterday, I figured I’d try stretching and maybe doing some exercises. Pete has a Total Gym. After stretching, I asked him to show me how to use it. I have to say, the stretching and a little bit of exercise did wonders for my back and arms.

I slept very well, and I was much less stiff today. So much so that I went back down to stretch and do more exercises. This is why today happiness is No Nap Required.

I felt terrific after stretching and exercising. There were a couple of times when I thought about having a nap just out of habit, but I just went and found something to do. I dragged the arenas – there’s an outdoor and indoor riding arena and they get dragged just like a race track. It makes the footing better for the horses.

Heck, I feel so I good I’m sitting down to write a blog post! Haven’t done this in a while. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Listen, we all know happiness is a daily choice thing. And I certainly could have “chosen” to do some stretching and exercising before now. So why did it take me four weeks to get around to it? Hmmm…beats the ca-ca out of me.

Sometimes you have to cut yourself some slack, you know? I moved out here to the farm, started a whole new job – that’s very physically demanding, and wrapped up the whole property settlement stuff with Yvette. That’s plenty of stress without adding exercise to the mix.

And you’re right if you’re thinking the stretching and exercise could have made things easier. It probably would have. And who cares? I’ve been happy each day, and I’m more happy now. Is this making sense?

Happiness does not require perfect choices. In fact, you can pretty much guarantee yourself that every choice you make for the rest of your life is going to be less than perfect. Hindsight is 20-20, so you can always look back and see how you might have chosen better. So find some happiness in the fact that you’re making choices and moving forward.

Last thing…For those who pee on your choices, or natter at you about how something could have been done better – increase your happiness by telling them to go soak their heads.
