Ever notice how easy it is to get distracted and side tracked? Especially when it’s away from something that’s hard to do anyway? Sure. We’ve all had it happen.
For me, it’s this new job on the farm. I’ve been here 11 days, and I think it’s great. But…
The first distraction was the pain. I mean real, “Oh shite,” my body hurts pain. ๐ You have to admit it’s kind of funny. Since June 2007 I’ve been sitting my arse in a chair writing. The heaviest thing I’ve had to lift is myself to go get something else to eat.
Now I’m hoisting 60 and 70 pound tubs of horse hockey, bales of hay, and walking 7 or 8 miles every day. Heck, I’ve lost 6 pounds in 11 days! Yippee, sure, because I want to lose the weight, but Yikes too, you know?
Anyway, it has been a good distraction.
Yea, I know. We all say that. But let me make the case…You see, the property settlement with Yvette was wrapped up at the same time. I moved out to the farm. And I was getting super emotional over the video script for the Kickstarter. Add in starting the new job, and the distraction is a sort of steam valve. It let me work off the emotional churning.
Now it’s time to keep moving forward. There’s still lots of work to do on the Kickstarter before it can be launched. With taking care of the horses, I think it’s about two weeks worth of work. That yes, I should have had done sooner, but I’m giving myself credit for having made steady progress. Maybe I’m too easy on myself?
I think it’s okay to get distracted from your goals and dreams. Granted, you need to be honest with yourself when it happens, I mean, it’s kind of useless if you don’t realise you’ve allowed yourself to get distracted, right? If you don’t know it’s happening, you can’t use it to your advantage.
So here’s what’s happening now: I’m going to start posting to this site and to www.TheMarketingSpotlight.com. That site needs updating anyway. ๐
Here I’ll keep writing about Getting Happy. On TheMarketingSpotlight I’m writing about the Kickstarter and promoting the book. That way you can see both sides of the project.
In the background, I have e-mails to write for supporters. That’s so they can send the e-mails to their friends telling them about the Kickstarter, of course.
Last thing – Someone sent me an e-mail about photos. She said she’d like to see pictures of the horses, so I’m going to take some pictures and share them. Maybe a couple of the dogs, too.
Thanks for reading. I appreciate it. And leave a comment. How have you spotted yourself getting distracted? And how did you get yourself moving forward again? I’d like to read your story.
